Course structure
The Modular ATPL course at Turin Flying Academy is designed for those aiming to obtain a Commercial Pilot
Licence
(CPL) and the additional ratings required to fly multi-engine commercial aircraft — but with maximum flexibility in
how you study and fly.
Unlike the Integrated course, the modular route is ideal for candidates who cannot commit
full-time. It allows you
to achieve each certification step-by-step, with independent training phases that can be spread out over time.
The programme develops progressively through key stages, each essential in building the skills
needed to become an
airline pilot.
Step 1 is the Private Pilot Licence (PPL), which enables you to fly light aircraft independently.
Once achieved, you
can begin the ATPL theoretical training — an intensive programme delivered mainly via
Distance Learning, designed to
provide all the knowledge required for professional commercial flying.
Step 2 is the Practical Flight Training: students continue building hours with a mix of training
and cross-country
flights until they reach the minimum hours required to progress. Completion of this phase leads to the
Commercial
Pilot Licence (CPL), which is essential for pursuing a career as an airline pilot.
Step 3 is the Instrument Rating (IR): it allows you to fly under instrument flight rules (IFR),
operating safely in
challenging weather conditions. Subsequently, the Multi-Engine Piston (MEP): essential for flying larger,
multi-engine commercial aircraft.
Lastly, the Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC), which prepares you for airline operations, training you
to work as part of
a professional cockpit crew, simulating the operating environment of airlines. This training allows students to
develop the coordination and communication skills required to operate effectively in a multi-crew environment.
The full CPL with all required ratings typically takes more than 24 months, though timings depend
on each student’s
availability and pace.
